“Based around gorgeous acoustic guitar playing and beautifully textured electronica these wondrous pieces of music are fleshed out by the inclusion of fleeting and occasionally ghostly vocals and mournful cello lines which together create a mood that is intoxicating.
Will have instant appeal to fans of Post Rock’s quieter exponents and minimalist ambient classical music like Max Richter’s work.” - Paul Page by
Chequerboard, aka John Lambert, is one of Ireland’s foremost musicians.
His debut album ‘Gothica’ was released in 2002, followed by ‘Penny Black’ in 2008 on the Lazybird label. Having forged his artistic identity through these albums and received widespread critical acclaim, Chequerboard’s 2013 album ‘The Unfolding’ saw the arrival of an artist with a unique vision on the international stage. ‘The Unfolding’ was mixed by legendary Ken Thomas (Sigur Ros, Cocteau Twins) and has been described as a record of serene and shimmering beauty. Each of its nine pieces as delicate, detailed and purposeful as a Japanese garden. The album has since gone on to receive adulation from many different corners of the globe reflected in the now global listenership reaching 17 million streams to date on Spotify alone.
Chequerboard continues the pattern of emerging every few years with new carefully crafted chapters to add to his story.
