Past Palms is a New York-based producer creating Lo-Fi music to water your plants to. Blending lush ambient soundscapes, warm nature samples, and bass-heavy beats, the music aims to encapsulate the feeling of surrounding yourself with an oasis of tropical houseplants while living in a grey, nature-less city.
The plant-inspired artist released their new song, “Rainwater,” as the lead single from their forthcoming 'Vernal' EP with a premiere from leading electronic music outlet, Mixmag, who wrote, “The New York-based producer is steadily building a reputation for crafting lush soundscapes imbued with an organic sense of tranquillity, and 'Rainwater' is another blissed-out (and low-key danceable) triumph.”
The track exhibits new territory for Past Palms, with dance-inflected beats and a more expansive song structure, all while retaining a lush and tropical atmosphere. The EP represents the changing of seasons from winter to spring, and the darkness and light that intertwine along the way. With dark beats, blooming vocal samples, and water-like ambience, 'Vernal' is a testament to the bittersweet contrast of witnessing new flowers begin to bud, all while the cold effects of winter continue to linger. 'Vernal' will be released following the spring equinox on Friday, March 20th.
Past Palms released their debut, self-titled EP on the 2019 summer solstice with an in-depth feature from Apartment Therapy, who described it as “music specifically for watering your plants.”
