"Sam Carmody is a real literary talent, with an artist’s inquiring mind and a natural feel for the beauty and toughness of language" - Charlotte Wood, Stella Prize-winning author of The Natural Way of Things
“Batavia” is the first single from the forthcoming debut album of WA novelist and songwriter, Sam Carmody. It is a song about grief and the attempt to find refuge in memory; in the "last light" of a relationship.
The album was recorded and co-produced by Dylan Ollivierre (The Money War) at his Fremantle studio.
Living on the southern coast of WA, Sam Carmody has won multiple awards for his songwriting and writing.
His debut novel The Windy Season was shortlisted for the Australian Vogel’s literary award, and won the 2017 Readings Prize for New Australian Fiction.
He has also won a prestigious West Australian Music Industry (WAMi) song award.
