It’s a common enough story, played out every day in satellite towns across the country: adolescent ekes an existence via unfulfilling jobs, all the while plotting an altogether more extraordinary future.
For Uxbridge-raised singer/songwriter Fee Booth, purgatory was squeezing in shifts at the local branch of Wetherspoons in-between completing her studies. But what makes Booth’s story different is that an extraordinary life is no longer just some pipe dream; it’s the reality she’s steadily building for herself with Bloxx.
Joined by fellow ‘Spoons survivor Paul Rau on bass, and old college pal Taz Sidhu on lead guitar respectively, Booth has enjoyed a rapid ascent with Bloxx. Only three years on from her earliest solo songwriting experiments, the band have leapt from being viral stars to veterans of Spotify’s flagship alt channel ‘The Indie List’, toured with The Wombats, Sundara Karma and Pale Waves, and put out their debut EP via Chess Club, the label that launched the careers of Wolf Alice and Mumford and Sons.
With European and US tours under their belt, and tastemakers Triple J and 3FM championing them in Australia and the Netherlands respectively, Bloxx find themselves in an enviable position, as one of very few young bands eyeing international success at such an early stage of their career. Booth makes no attempt to hide her ambition either, stating for the record, “Ultimately, we want to be that huge indie band.” Bloxx then, forever dreaming big.
