Formed by a group of Spanish preteens under the guidance of their music teacher, Furious Monkey House's confident, '90s grunge-informed rock belied their youth from the start, while age-appropriate English lyrics addressed the everyday. Their debut album, Run, saw release in 2015. The founding members of Furious Monkey House -- singer Mariña Paz Otero, guitarists Irene Esteban Teijeira and Manu Tomé, keyboardist Amaya Blanco Bello, drummer Carlota Montoya Robles, and bassist/instructor (and donner of a monkey mask) Gonzalo Maceira Hermida (aka El Mono Furioso) -- launched the band in Pontevedra in 2014. After impressing with a five-track demo, they headed to Planta Sónica in Vigo and Abbey Road Studios in London to record their full-length debut with Maceira and Iago Lorenzo producing. The resulting Run arrived via Esmerante/Atresmedia Música in November 2015. In 2016, the band played festivals including Primavera Pop in Madrid, and Planeta published the paperback Furious Monkey House: Corre Mono Corre, which told the story of the band while making Run. A year later, Diego Flores replaced Tomé on guitar. Between school and touring, Furious Monkey House returned to the studio, emerging in June 2019 with "Echoes," the lead single from their sophomore album, Love, Scum & Dust, which followed in September 2019. By that time, most members were in their mid-teens. ~ Marcy Donelson, Rovi
