He started the project in 2017 while randomly playing chords in his 1985 Fender Stratocaster after a tiring school day. He came up with the idea of the name "Ice Cream Boy" because it fitted softly into the chorus of the song he had in mind at the time, which soon after became his artistical name and the name the most representative song of his first EP "Chocolate, Vanilla & Tequila".
Castillo released Chocolate, Vanilla & Tequila in May 2019 without a record label and promoted it through social media and indie music Youtube channels. Six months later, he released the single Don't You Know categorizing it as his first love song dedicated to an impossible love.
