Kabwasa is a 22-year-old, Watsonville native who is putting 831 on the map. Sharing his name with his grandpa, who was sent to the United States to represent the Democratic Republic of the Congo after his small village gained independence, Kabwasa sets out to represent his hometown and lead a creative renaissance that inspires others.

With a style described as an old school vibe with a new school flow, Kabwasa pulls influence from the likes of Lauryn Hill, Stevie Wonder, and Anderson .Paak. His fuse of rap, neo-soul, and hip-hop creates his signature groovy and cheerful vibe. He has been covered by publications such as Elevator Mag, I Am Hip-Hop, and Respect My Region and has played countless shows in venues all over the west coast. The groove and energy of Kabwasa’s live show cannot be understated.

Perhaps it is his positivity and never ending enthusiasm that sets him apart from his contemporaries. The poet, lyricist, and rapper evokes a certain kind of curiosity towards his craft that is bound to take him far. Whether he is performing for a crowd of five people or five hundred people, Kabwasa knows how to work the stage. With his bright smile and slick dance moves that work together to transfer his positive energy to his fans, Kabwasa is a name to remember.
Kabwasa’s goal is to inspire creatives to take their art beyond their city. He has proven that with hard work and determination, anything is possible.
