Known as Jam City, Jack Latham is a producer from South London, England whose inspirations include Chicago house, Detroit techno, and London grime, as well as early-'80s electro and the sharp, pristine sounds of mid- to late-'80s R&B.
Signed to Night Slugs, the label run by like-minded artists Bok Bok and L-Vis 1990, Latham began with the EPs Magic Drops (2010) and Waterworx (2011), then assembled an album, Classical Curves (2012). All three releases were starkly constructed and careened from heavy rhythms to beatless atmospheres. For Dream a Garden (2015), Latham scuffed up his sound, bathed it in reverb, and provided emotive -- but partially buried -- vocals to express his dissatisfaction with the effects of capitalism. ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi
