During a spur-of-the-moment roadtrip to Chile, the two were jamming on a plastic ukulele at the patio of a hotel, when the owner walked by and asked them to play at his bar that night. After seeing the response from the crowd, the duo emerged, and after months of performing on the city's subways and trains and writing songs in both Spanish and English, they announced the beginning of the Axtell project to Julian's online following, to praise from both online media and their new fans.
Despite being just two onstage, the pair began producing an energetic live show with just acoustic guitar, ukulele and kick drum to back up their captivating harmonies. They recorded their first EP, No More Monkey Business
, 2016, in Buenos Aires and organized their first US tour, performing at venues across the state of Minnesota and the Midwest. Amazed at the response of their new audience, the duo quickly announced a second, larger tour through 10 states, to accompany the release of the sophomore Traveler - EP
, June 2017.
In late July of 2017, the duo officially announced their engagement to their fans.
