Bijou Noir's Augustus Watkins began making a name for himself in 2009 as the vocalist/songwriter for the bombastic Minneapolis rock band Hot Ashes . Watkins was marked as one of the most exciting frontmen in the city’s scene, known for his high vocal range and thrilling stage presence. After Hot Ashes disbanded in 2013, Augustus began exploring other musical identities, including DEATHDANCE whose debut EP reached #26 on the iTunes electronica charts. Bijou Noir's first outing was under the name ACTN in 2014. The found sturdy footing — even opening for Lizzo — while media praised ACTN's singles and music videos. In 2016 both ACTN and DEATHDANCE played Minneapolis' famed First Avenue. In late 2016, Watkins packed up his life and moved to Europe, renamed ACTN to Bijou Noir and released We Are Alone Together. On April 2, 2021 Bijou Noir debuted "Start a Revolution," the first in a series of singles to be released that year. Each new song was written on solo ukulele and then arranged into full electro pop productions in remote locations across Central and Eastern Europe. The songs were completed in Los Angeles and mastered at the legendary Abbey Road Studios in 2021.
