The music of the Evoke Ensemble is an intriguing blend of bass guitarist and composer, Tim Paul Weiner’s interest in the emotive element of film music, combined with the visceral, exploratory funk, Cellar-Door era of Miles Davis, and the pastoral lyricism of his Mid-Western heritage.
It’s steeped in groove and improvisation, inspired by jazz, influenced by film. Growing up in the Mid-West, with wide, open spaces and big skies, a child’s imagination runs wild with endless possibilities. Add to that a parent’s collection of vinyl film scores, an early affinity for RnB and jazz and you have the creative wellspring of what would become the music of the Evoke Ensemble. Fast forward a few decades later, add the curation of like-minded, world-class musicians and a desire to commit this sound to memory, and you have the Evoke Ensemble’s debut album, Groove for Peace.
“Flirting with film score landscapes and world music, while being grounded in jazz with distinct RnB groove sensibility that aims ever skyward and beyond. Groove For Peace is a much needed and very cool release!" ~Bass Frontiers Magazine
Miles Davis meets Sade; Chet Baker meets Jazzanova; Pat Metheny meets Incognito…The Evoke Ensemble lives up to it’s eponym: evoking the listener’s mind to the tapestry of their human experience while simultaneously, subconsciously making them bob their heads.<br>
