Ben Loftin and The Family formed in the laid-back coastal town of Pensacola, Florida, where it’s signature “white-sand funk” continues to be heavily influenced by the rich musical cultures of the Gulf Coast.
The band's roots trace back to the summer of 2011 when founding singer/songwriter and guitarist Ben Loftin and three old high school jazz band members —drummer Christian Sanders, saxophone player Austin Paul Jr. and bassist Marcus Gillard—began practicing in the Florida room of Loftin’s parents’ house. After refining it’s sound—and cultivating a loyal backyard following—the group began playing live in and around town. Within a couple of years, it welcomed aux percussionist Avion Wright and most recently trombonist, Brian Thompson. Today the six-piece ensemble produces a vibrant blend of pop, funk, soul and reggae—reflecting everything from Maroon 5 to old-school Bob Marley—at a wide range of venues from Mobile, Alabama to Panama City Beach and beyond.
