Sebastian Roca; singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based in Sydney finding the spaces between alternative jazz, latin and soul.
Roca received his first guitar at a young age as a Christmas present from his mother and has been quietly writing since. Taking inspiration from sounds he grew up with at home, including the likes of jazz crooner Chet Baker alongside bossa nova and latin fusion greats like João Gilberto and Jorge Ben Jor, he began developing his own signature style.
After gaining attention via early tracks uploaded to Soundcloud, his first single, You, was independently released in early 2017. The single's instant impact was followed by the release of a debut EP, Parkiew Demos. Named for the Sydney apartment building in which it was written, recorded and produced, the collection of songs explores contrasts between love and loneliness, and confronting personal insecurities. On Parkview, which has since spawned two singles, Roca says he wanted to “expose these truths to both myself and others … and see if they would translate"
Sebastian's second self-made EP Cold, "an excercise in self-reflection", is available now.
