@Lazarus Clamp formed in Leicester in 1994 notably at a Rodan, The Eggs & Tsunami gig at the Princess Charlotte where Michael & Andrew hatched a plan.
Future bassist George was also present that night with local promoter Ian Magic Teapot but as strangers.
Huw a drummer from Nottingham, Kim a local bassist were recruited for the original line-up then Tom of MJ Hibbett & The Validators joined on Violin and George in 1999 as Kim left. To start with the band played heavy discordant mathy, post-punk/post-hardcore drawing on their Big Black, Fugazi, Mekons, Bitch Magnet, ShellacSeam inspiration which softened to english folk/americana then settled on their own particular sound a few albums in. George left and formed Former Utopia & John took over on Bass.
The band record live on to analogue tape and overdub vocals/violin. They have been known to build their own amps/pedals and Huw restores old ludwig kits. They live in 5 different cities spread around the UK & Gina from Last Harbour was on some recordings & live shows. They played SXSW in 2001 with Mice Parade, Herman Düne & Mogwai and supported Giant Sand, Laura Cantrell, Bellini, Wussy, Joel R. L Phelps & The Downer Trio, The Mekons & The New Year (Chris Brokaw on drums-a big inspiration to the band with his solo & Come/ Codiene work).
They have recorded 6 albums & a bunch of singles for Sorted, Bearos, Words & Works Rejected, Little Red Rabbit. Damnably (George’s Label) released the catalogue digitally & last LP for RSD.
