Candid Bandit

  1. 1.
Candid Bandit—the moniker of Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Caitlin Cook—seamlessly blends hook-heavy indie pop with fervent folk influences at times and darker, more distorted indie rock at others.
Her commanding voice and evocative lyrics have drawn comparisons to artists such as Joni Mitchell, Mitski, Cat Power, Phoebe Bridgers, and Regina Spektor. Exposed to music from a young age by her grandfather Raymond Lubow, who founded Morley and invented the wah-wah guitar pedal, Cook began writing songs at age four, which were mostly about her cats. With her debut EP Bridges to Burn, she now tackles such subjects as ruin, rootlessness, and redemption. With a clear voice that is at times haunting and ethereal and at other times conversational and exposed, she has captivated audiences all over the world at festivals, theaters, comedy clubs, concert halls, dimly lit bar basements, strangers' living rooms, and even a houseboat once.
“Bridges to Burn may be Candid Bandit’s debut EP, but it still hits hard in all the right places. Reminiscent of Mitski, it’s full of catchy hooks and indie folk-inspired sounds that make her radio-ready and the perfect addition to your indie playlists.
