Vyva Melinkolya's first, self-titled, album came in 2018 (mastered by Warren Hildebrand (Foxes in Fiction, Orchid Tapes) and built a wave of online underground notice and acclaim for her masterful and fresh take on sadcore & shoegazing. Her following release came two years later in 2020, an EP 'Violet', which elaborated on and grew from its predecessor's sonic palette, but noticeably darkened the wall-of-noise of that album into something even more personal, sincere, and equally nostalgic, meanwhile notably showcasing Angel's burgeoning singing voice, as well as increasingly mature, subtle layers of guitar work.
Though elements of her sound are diversely rooted in influences that range from sparse, lumbering American slowcore like Low, 90s shoegaze, and the dark, metallic droning of Chelsea Wolfe and Jesu, Angel's music is still foremost a self-reflection. At its core, it is entirely of her own craft, a blurry window she has left open so we can gaze within. What has come from a bedroom recording setup hasn't lost any of her strength in translation to working with producer/drummer Chyppe Crosby in studio on her upcoming full length.
