She was a sunflower.
But over time we grew apart, and even though she was still the sunflower i fell in love with, the connotation of what a sunflower was shifted completely.
My focus shifted from the light of the sunflower to the shadow the flower cast.
initially i thought the shadow was reflective of the girl i was in love with but in reality the shadow was just the place i was in.
i would go to a place where the city lights would give me comfort. but aside from comfort, the lights would give me perspective on a deteriorating relationship that needed light badly.
at first, the city lights would comfort me because they would remind me of how vibrant the sunflower’s colors used to be. but after accepting the situation i was in, the lights gave me a new perspective in which the sunflower was still beautiful and where my focus was no longer on the dark shadow of the sunflower.
