KOTTOS is a quartet of the most unlikely instruments - cello, recorder, accordion and bouzouki - producing an odd size package of folk music.
Founded in 2013 by accordionist Bjarke Mogensen, the group met during their studies at the Royal Danish Academy of Music and they have been collaborating since in numerous concerts. In 2013 they decided to get together and form a quartet, under the name of KOTTOS, to share their passion for folk music and to feed their common need to explore progressive forms and alternative sounds. “Instrumental folk music from a place that doesn't exist” is what best describes the music of KOTTOS. Since 2019 guitarist Mikkel Egelund Nielsen has joined the quartet.
