Indira May is fast approaching the forefront of an exciting new generation of Jazz and Soul artists. Building on the foundations of a childhood rich in music, the 23-year-old artist has ridden the scene’s fresh wave of popularity in a way that is earning her accolades and a growing reputation as a songwriter and vocalist, despite having only released her first EP independently back in 2018.
In 2019, she was invited to contribute to a ground-breaking new book by Jazz journalist, Sammy Stein. This book, ‘Women In Jazz’, chronicles the experience of pioneering women both past and present and celebrates notable contributors of the scene. Meanwhile, her feature on Skelecta’s 2020 track ‘Got Your Back’ caught the attention of Toddla T, consequently earning her BBC Radio 1 play and succeeding upon previous appearances and multiple live interviews in 2019 on the likes of BBC Introducing, BBC London and Jazz FM.
As a live performer, Indira holds a particularly raw style, with her vocals providing a cathartic and heady ambience to the London circuit. She has played live in London, in other major cities and at numerous festivals. Notable highlights include Nozstock 2018, Wonderfields 2018, Ronnie Scott’s in 2019 and supporting Kojey Radical in 2017.
Now residing in London, her career looks set to evolve as her steady establishment deep within the nucleus for soulful music blooms alongside her future collaborative releases and solo projects.
