Kelleia is a Korean-American vocalist, songwriter, and producer. Deemed a "female producer everyone should know" by Billboard, Kelleia's artful, emotional sound invokes comparisons to sonic pioneers like FKA twigs, Lykke Li, and Jessy Lanza while also exuding the pop appeal of Dua Lipa and Jhene Aiko.
Born in Long Beach and raised in Orange County, California, Kelleia soaked up the sounds of the janggu, a traditional Korean drum her mother played, and learned choral singing from her paternal aunt, an operatic soprano soloist. A dancer from the age of 3, she was drawn to contemporary R&B like Janet Jackson and Destiny's Child and made first musical moves singing blues covers while she was earning a master’s in urban sociology from the London School of Economics. Following her schooling, Kelleia studied yoga and meditation in India, and introduced harmonium, a pump organ, into her musical repertoire.
Through these eclectic life experiences, Kelleia has crafted a sound wholly her own, fusing elements of R&B, pop, electronic, and devotional music. She debuted in 2017 with “Diamond Love”, an anthemic single released on all-female, LA-based label Unspeakable Records, and followed with a dreamy, experimental single “Air” in early 2018, remixed by indie hip-hop producer Kenny Segal (who has produced for Anderson .Paak and Busdriver). Her debut EP is set for release this year.
