Bassist Larry Grenadier was born in San Francisco on February 6, 1966. He graduated from Stanford University with a degree in English Literature in 1989.
Grenadier has played bass with numerous jazz artists including Charles Lloyd, Paul Motian, Billy Higgins, Michael Brecker, Brian Blade, David Sanchez, Chris Potter, and Danilo Perez.
He first earned critical acclaim in the early '90s while playing in a trio led by pianist Brad Mehldau, with whom he remained for more than a decade. Grenadier has also has worked extensively with guitarists John Scofield and Pat Metheny, the latter in a trio with drummer Bill Stewart. He has credited his experiences touring with the Metheny trio for his significant educational growth.
Grenadier is also a member of FLY, a recording and touring trio which includes drummer Jeff Ballard and tenor saxophonist Mark Turner. They have recorded three critically acclaimed albums. He also tours and records with his wife, singer/songwriter Rebecca Martin. In early 2017, Grenadier joined Scofield and keyboardist John Medeski in Jack DeJohnette's quartet Hudson.
