Windup Space draw their inspiration from dark, atmospheric alt-rock and catchy emo-punk. They put feelings of isolation and anxiety into heartfelt songs and pour them out over the audience with great conviction.
Renowned for their energetic and emotionally charged live performances, their strong live reputation led Windup Space to play venues like Paradiso, Mezz and Bibelot, festivals such as Misty Fields and Breda Barst, and a support show for Gender Roles.
Windup Space was founded in 2012 by singer/guitarist Menno van Marle, bassist Jesse Kwaks en drummer Steven van Marle. After releasing the well-received debut EP The Only Thing We Have to Fear in 2016, the band steadily gained a reputation as a strong live act, playing numerous local shows and festivals. In 2019 the band released their sophomore effort Shelter. This eight song album is a brutally honest confession about topics like depression, anxiety and loneliness. Recently the band finished recording new music, which resulted in 4 tracks that will be released over the course of 2020, adding a more upbeat and positive sound to their already diverse catalogue.
