Growing up, Kahlo’s mother did not allow her to listen to much Hip Hop and R&B. However, her father was a well-known DJ in the Baltimore area in the 90’s. Kahlo would see him on the weekends, and he would insist on teaching her the history of Hip Hop and Soul music. From there, her love for the music began and she could not go a day without listening. She would listen to her favorite songs and rap along as if she was filming the video herself.
Her own music is inspired by the likes of both 2Pac and Willow Smith. It’s sharp, but playful with her flirtatious, yet fiery, lyrics. Kahlo released her debut single, “Kahlo’s Freestyle,” in February of 2017. Since then, she has gone on to perform in a number of shows in Baltimore and the DMV as well as release her well-received video for her single “Trance.” Most recently, she was a part of Bali Baby’s PlayGirl World Tour.
