Over the course of its life, death metal has grown and evolved, with the scope and complexity of the genre expanding to encompass more than its profane progenitors could have imagined.
Looking to take the sound back to its brutal roots, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania's Trenchrot return the genre to its early days with a sound built on a solid foundation of crushing riffs, marauding drums, and violent imagery. Formed in 2012 by singer and guitarist Steve Jansson, guitarist Brooks Wilson, bassist Steve Geptik, and drummer Justin Bean, the Philly quartet built their sound based on just two simple rules, to "play death metal" and "crush posers." This simple yet effective ethos resulted in a sound that harkens back to metal greats like Bolt Thrower and Asphyx, favoring directness wherever possible on the band's 2014 debut, Necronomic Warfare. ~ Gregory Heaney, Rovi
