Anjimile is a queer and trans songmaker/lover boy with a heart of gold based in Boston, MA. Their new release, 'Maker Mixtape', is out now.
As a first-generation Malawian-American raised in the suburbs of Richardson, Texas, Anjimile's experiences with racism, homophobia and xenophobia in the deep south and beyond have helped to form the basis of their radical queer politics. The essence of their musical output is a gooey center of warmth and tenderness informed by the power of their intersectional identities.
Anjimile is an NPR Music Artist to Watch in 2019, and they are the winner of WBUR's Favorite Massachusetts Entry to the Tiny Desk Contest 2018. Two of their singles, "To Meet You There" and "Golden Hands", are featured in the independent film "Anything" (2017) starring Maura Tierney, John Carroll Lynch and Matt Bomer. Most recently, Anjimile was nominated for three 2018 Boston Music Awards - singer/songwriter of the year, unsigned artist of the year and folk artist of the year.
