The psychedelic afro-rock have returned to Lagos! Jad, Adey, Stiques and Laughter, the four Nigerians from the band Skata Vibration, tap into the powerful waters and heritage of the Nigerian afro-rock music from the 60’s and 70’s (a musical style which had disappeared from the Lagos scene) to deliver a powerful modern afro-rock album of freedom and hope.
For several years, Adey (conceptual drummer), Jad (hypnotic loop guitarist), Laughter (roots bassist) and Stiques (eclectic vocalist) attended the same studio in Lagos (Nigeria). Each had a foot in the Lagos music scene.
In 2018, Skata Vibration released their first album, Wuta, and played in the most famous venues and festivals in Lagos, such as the Terra Kuture Arena, Freedom Park, the Festival Felabration at New Afrika Shrine, and on the occasion of the Lagos International Jazz Festival.
In 2020, Skata Vibration released their second album, Tatsuniyan Lagos animated by a quivering spirit of freedom and hope, pays homage to the nostalgic Nigerian sounds of the Afro-rock from the 60’s and 70’s. Haunted by traditional Yoruba incantations, powerful voices mixed with edgy strings to produce a very vibrant rock material. Fast, nervous, the lyrics of the album describe a harsh social landscape for young people who continue to advance at all costs, despite social inequalities and widespread corruption. The king of Alternative Brymo or the German-Nigerian singer Nneka accompanies the group on three titles.
