Her big break came in 2014 with the release of ‘Vermillion’, a track which Billboard labelled ‘a game changer’. Equally winning the support of TIME, The Guardian and The Singles Jukebox, who named it their ‘Single of the Year’, it also caught the attention of Grimes, who championed it on her personal blog. ‘Vermillion’ celebrated a transitional period of self-discovery for Sofi, demonstrating her experimentation with fresh sounds, heavy beats and new angles both lyrically and musically, which she credits with having made her a better and more innovative songwriter. The result of a winning partnership with Finnish producer/writer Jonas Karlsson.
Sofi has since released 3 EPs 'Give up at 2', 'That Isn't You' and 'Mess' with which she further reinforced her pop done right brand.
Late 2016 saw the release of Sofis' biggest track to date 'Flex Your Way Out' featuring Blackbear. A song in which she explored a deeper more introverted side, mourning the end of a relationship, although the songs overall feel is one of closure and optimism. The repeated refrain 'go ahead and play with another, not me, I'm done' gave name to her debut album, released in mid 2017.
