The return of the frontman, the rock ’n’ roll figurehead and bandleader that is Jeremy Davidson. Now known as JD, Davidson was previously Johnny Wishbone the singer for blues-rock rockabilly roustabouts The Snowdroppers who released three acclaimed albums and tore up stages with countless live shows across Australia.
Two years after the band parted ways, JD has convened a new gang of musicians to bring his dark tales of love and heartbreak into the blinking harsh daylight of the Australian music scene in 2019. The five-piece combine the raw, rugged croon of Chris Isaak and the dark side of Elvis with the eerie, atmospheric tones of the Bad Seeds and the crunch and swagger of The Cult, dropped in the middle of a Spaghetti Western soundtrack.
The first offering from the band is the four song EP Self-Titled (Nov 15th) which showcases the depth and stylistic range of the quintet. From the slow building, grand epic gesture of ‘Wake Me Up’ and the swerving, duck & dive, heavy rallying cry of opener ‘You Can’t Come’, to the shimmering psych-rock desert twang of ‘Wolves’ and the classic, soulful and tender acoustic ballad that is ‘Hold On’ – this is modern rock music, influenced by the best artists that have trodden stages and commanded airwaves before them.
