Irish singer-songwriter Mark Geary left Ireland for New York over 20 years ago. There, in Sin-e cafe, Mark honed his craft and sang alongside the late Jeff Buckley.
Time Out NY said, “His delicate songs about love recall Richard Thompson and John Lennon.”
With eight albums, touring and live performances are still Mark's lifeblood. Geary’s sound is stripped back. His honest lyrics cut to the core revealing a life laid bare of human frailty, failed relationships, tenderness, hurt, making amends, desire and parting.
Geary has featured on bills with Joe Strummer, Elvis Costello, The Pretenders, Coldplay and The Frames amongst others. Plus extensive headlining tours.
Mark’s latest single The Forest is exquisite. A beautiful sound, its quietness is haunting and evocative. It sets a new path for Geary’s sound.
Mark says: “I woke up from a dream and there was a storm outside the window here in the Forest. One of those real cinematic storms, with trees bending and lightning. The thought occurred to me that some nights there’s a tempest – whether it’s outside or in you. The day after, I wrote the song in one burst. Writing about lonesomeness, ‘my’ forest, childhood, my beautiful brother, chaotic father. The refrain ‘come into the light – come into the light’ was a mantra; a release.”
There’s more to come from this talented songsmith, Mark says this time in lockdown has been a catalyst for deep thinking. Geary is looking forward to connecting with his audiences again.
