Ladada is a band from Virginia Beach. Originally conceived as a solo project by Josiah Schlater, it has now expanded to include Bobby Rangel (drums), Robert Smith (bass), and Jonnie Schilling (guitar).
Their self-titled debut EP, released back in 2014 on Gold Robot Records, won praise from Stereogum, Consequence of Sound, and Wondering Sound for its undeniably infectious lively and sun-drenched songs, which take inspiration from early Motown and 60s garage rock. "Songs like these come along every once in a while and cannot be overlooked" (Indie Shuffle).

In 2016 Ladada released the Hi Five EP, which borrowed the secret sauce from one of Schlater's punk projects, BAMM BAMM. Heartbreaking Bravery raved about the EP, saying, "Song after song, hook after hook, Hi Five sees Ladada proving themselves to be a serious force. As a standalone EP, it's a revitalizing piece of music. As part of the band's discography, it's undoubtedly positioned itself as a calling card for years to come."

On March 22nd (2019), Ladada will release their long-awaited debut full length album. The title--Heaven on the Rocks--stems from a misunderstood conversation between a bartender and Schlater, who had asked for "Evan, on the rocks," and from a tubing trip down the James River with a group of friends. While seemingly floating through paradise, rocks would scrape backs at random, and Schlater was struck by the peace and solace that was occasionally interrupted by shouts of pain from across the water.
