Icelandic post-rock instrumental foursome Beware the Blue Sky makes music that has a way of introducing listeners to their own deepest thoughts and emotions.
Rather than turn the no-vocals format into one big reason to overplay, Beware the Blue Sky is atmospheric, melodic, and hypnotic and uses those tools to take the listening audience along on its intensely personal journey. The band uses instrumental music to express intangible things and as social commentary on the modern world. At times, the group will use samples of speeches and other vocals in its music but distorts them to keep fans in an emotional and imaginative state.
The band formed in 2016 and experienced the kind of growing pains many new artists face and it took time to lock down the current lineup of guitarist Viktor Aron Bragason, bassist Pétur Haukur Ásgeirsson, drummer Oddur Gunnarsson Bauer, and keyboardist Hlynur Már Bagguley Árnason. Now solidified, Beware the Blue Sky has released one single, “Introspection,” that demonstrates its brand of mesmerizing performance and draws comparisons to California instrumental legends The Mermen, which is high praise, indeed. Beware the Blue Sky is a developing unit but shows much promise for the future. The goal now is to record and play live until the entire world is under its spell.
