Vytal MC , born Jason C. Johnson, debuted on the DC music scene at the age of 13.
He got his start under the stage name Live Wire, and made his first attempts towards a career in music by performing at high schools and other local venues. He eventually joined forces with a music collective of other solo artists then known as VIP Records. One of his most frequent collaborators at the time was fellow hip hop artist, J. Snakes, who served as an inspiration to Jason to help him transition from solely a freestyle rapper to a serious artist and songwriter. While in high school and performing more and more frequently on the local scene, Jason found himself at a crossroads. After taking an honest look at the direction of his life and fearing that he was heading down a wayward path, at the age of 16 he became a follower of Christ and subsequently changed his artist name from Live Wire to Vytal MC, which was a reflection of his then newfound faith. Those who knew him at the time were shocked by this radical transformation. Since releasing his debut EP, Crazy 4 Christ EP, Vytal has experienced much in his life which is always reflected in his music. Lyrically, he makes purposeful attempts to steer clear of stereotypical hip hop braggadocio and instead point people towards God. Since 2009, Jason aka Vytal MC has served as lead singer/guitarist for the alternative pop punk band, Johnsonian Theory.
