Yak Yola is a promising young rapper hailing from the unforgiving, gritty streets of West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
After soldiering through a hard upbringing, the 23-year-old, born Mark Anthony Johnson and nephew to State Property’s Omillio Sparks, turned to rap in 2018 following the murder of his four-year-old son. With his dark, rowdy and altogether haunting flow, he first drew faithful listeners with “Demon Flow” in 2019. His signature style blends newly-mainstream drill and ominous trap sounds, layering uncompromising street narratives over therapeutic, blood-thumping production that can be found on his forthcoming mixtape, Misunderstood. The material will include production from frequent collaborator King Murder and a from feature Brooklyn drill rapper, Sheff G.
