Known for their live performance style, often compared to watching and being a part of a full-blown riot, Cartel Madras delivers their music by combining elements of the underground trap, queer and punk scene. It is through word of mouth that followed their first year of performing in 2018 that their rise has been so quick and their story has found its way into several media publications including Rolling Stone, VOGUE, Clash Magazine & Complex. After being discovered by Ishmael Butler of Digable Planets fame at Sled Island 2018 music festival, the duo was signed to Seattle’s Sub Pop Records in June 2019 landing them their first record deal.
Their second EP Age of the Goonda, (out worldwide on November 1st, 2019 on Sub Pop Records, and in Canada through Royal Mountain Records), is a sonically expansive successor to their first EP, Trapistan, which boasted the party-down hit “Pork & Leek”. A manifesto for the times, Age of the Goonda is an in-your-face call to arms. Radical, immediate and experimental, the duo expands on the genre of Goonda rap, and intentionally pushes their listener to a brand new space in contemporary hip-hop.
