Small Town Stories is their stunning debut album, an intimate, uplifting and intensely beautiful record reflecting their deep-seated affiliation with American roots music. The album’s 10 tracks feature eight original songs written by McClennan. Front and centre is Smith’s voice, an instrument of remarkable purity, capable of conveying the full spectrum of emotions on an album which tackles the universal themes of parenthood, addiction, separation, war, childhood, love and loss.
A hugely respected figure on the international folk scene, Smith is a former BBC Young Traditional Musician of the year, has twice been Scots Singer of the Year, received two BBC Radio 2 Folk Award nominations and has released eight acclaimed solo albums of mainly traditional music. Her song 'Find Hope' was play listed on BBC Radio 2 in December 2016.
Musical collaborations include Richard Thompson, Barbara Dickson and Jerry Douglas. TV and radio appearances include Transatlantic Sessions, BBC Songs of Praise and BBC Radio 2's Good Morning Sunday.
Smith & McClennan is something new, however, marking the beginning of a more personal journey. Following the release in November, they will tour in 2020, bringing these ten compelling songs of hearth and home to the wider world, where they belong.
