Matt Fishel is an award-winning UK music artist, songwriter and producer based in London. Since establishing his own record label in 2010 (Young Lust Records), Matt has carved a unique niche for himself with his individual brand of queer-themed rock music and videos, building a strong international following and garnering millions of YouTube views along the way.
Matt’s songwriting and production combine elements of rock, punk, alternative, pop & storytelling; his narrative songs and candid lyrics deal openly with the joys, pains and experiences of growing up as a gay teen and being an out and proud gay man.
Politically passionate and socially aware, Matt creates unashamedly positive music and videos to advocate for the LGBTQ+ community. His 2013 music video for Radio-Friendly Pop Song went viral and gained Matt international recognition for his humorous yet acerbic commentary on institutional homophobia within the entertainment industry. The video for his 2014 reworking of CeCe Peniston's classic ‘91 dance anthem Finally comprises images submitted by fans from over 20 countries, celebrating international Pride.
Matt's debut solo album Not Thinking Straight (2013) and follow-up EP Cover Boy (2014) were co-produced with UK record producer Mark Crew (Bastille, Rag ‘n’ Bone Man, Katy Perry). His sophomore album M/F (2018) is co-produced with rock producer Lee Batiuk (Deaf Havana) and mastered by the legendary Ted Jensen at New York's Sterling Sound.
