Currently celebrating 16 years of making music and video, Poppermost gets compared to Simon and Garfunkel; Crosby, Stills and Nash; America; early Eagles; and many artists of that ilk due to the acoustic guitars and vocal harmonies in the songs.
They are also compared to R.E.M. and 1960s bands like the Beach Boys because of their bright, retro pop rock sound.
*Songs for the Different* is the fifth full-length album from pop and folk-rock duo Poppermost, and is a 19-song collection of some of the music created since the previous album in 2012. Alongside retro-flavored originals by Poppermost on the album, their covers pay homage to Syd Barrett, Cream, Cat Stevens, and Harry Nilsson.
Starting out as a duo on July 4, 2001, singer / songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Alex Oliver joined forces with bassist and audio / graphics guru Roy Rendahl and freed themselves from a budding garage cover band in order to write and perform original music. During the next five years, their expanded versions of the band turned in blistering live performances. Eventually they opted to stick to the studio as a duo, and have released four other full-length albums (the mellow acoustic self-titled debut, the daredevil power pop of *Absolutely Sonic*, the rich musical palate of *Bitter Suite Swan Songs*, and the eclectic musical diversity of *By Your Inspiration*) plus numerous singles and EPs.
