Mirtha Rico started her musical career in the Provincial School of Art of Bayamo, Cuba. It was there where she learned harmony, solfege, play Bach’s preludes and fugues and fell in love with the songs of Portillo de la Luz.
At 16 years old, she left Cuba and moved to United States. She didn’t speak the language but had a burning desire to thrive and succeed in this new foreign country. It was then when, Mirtha, started to write songs. Writing allowed her to express her fears, her worries, her dreams. It allowed her to remember Cuba and at the same time focus on her new life.
