Koshanin - a pianist, composer and a veteran on the music scene with his active career stretching to over 30 years.
He acquired a formal music education in Yugoslavia and joined the vibrant local music scene. Eventually he relocated to the USA and continued his musical journey by performing extensively in clubs and festivals throughout the US and Canada. After focusing on more private studies Koshanin developed an interest in reed instruments and gradually shifted to new directions by working with several World Music groups. Over the years all his collaborations and side projects amounted to over 30 albums. Meanwhile Koshanin found himself returning to Piano - his first love in music, and through a revived fascination with Balkan folk music from his childhood he laid the foundation for a new body of work.
Koshanin’s solo piano explorations stand as the meeting point of the East and the West, reflecting his own journey. By blending the sounds of the Old World with the contemporary Western music, he transforms piano into a modern-day folk instrument with his unique interpretations of traditional Balkan folk songs and original, folk music inspired compositions.
On his latest album "Under The Sacred Tree" Koshanin further explores these folk melodies and the odd time-signatures characteristic of the music from the Balkan region, reviving them in a new, non-traditional context. His continuous search for beauty and simplicity in music gives this album a peaceful, reflective mood.<br>
