The Violent Years emerged out of the muddy sumps behind the sunny facade of a coastal small-town in Norway.
Their music is definitely a blend of various inspirations, ranging from the innovative chord-changes The Beatles developed, to the emotional transcendental exploit of americana and alternative country.
They where one of the first bands to import the americana-sound to Norway, and developed it further into their own sound, mixing styles and sounds inspired by british post-punk and avantgarde.
The band was formed in 2004 by singer and songwriter Kenneth Bringsdal and keys-player Kjetil Sjølingstad together with Jack van der Hagen on bass, guitarist Andreas Hoff and Per Bertrand Aanonsen on drums.
Andreas Hoff and Per Bertrand Aanonsen then left the band in 2010 and new members guitarist and technician Lars Erik Humborstad and drummer Eivind Thorsvik joined in to release the bands first studio album (Trying to get over, 2012). Lars Erik Humborstad left the band in 2017 to build Squintfarm Studio and work as a sound engineer, though still working with the band.
The Violent Years have released three studio albums, one EP and two singles.
