Raised in Southampton but “reborn” in Brighton, self-taught musician Meg Lawrenson describes herself as an “over-sharer”, as she unapologetically advocates honest storytelling in her songwriting: “I write about break downs, break ups, finding love, finding yourself…” She says. “Anything I feel or do, I will write about it.”
What is striking about Meg’s music is her ability to seamlessly combine genres: “Is it Pop, Rock, Country…?” She laughs. “Who knows!” From early roots in Country Music (Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood), to teenage rock angst (Alanis Morissette, Paramore) to maturing Pop sounds (Dagny, Maisie Peters), Meg intertwines these genres to create her own unique sound.
Lawrenson has built her reputation as an engaging performer, playing live venues across the UK and Europe, including supporting the likes of “Dancing in the Moonlight” Toploader and The View’s frontman Kyle Falconer, and has gained support from retail stories such as H&M, Pure Gym and Topman on her 2019 single “We Knew What Love Was”.
In the summer of 2020, Meg bought out two singles, “Use My Body” and “Make My Bed”, and is adapting to the COVID-19 lockdown by recording more songs from her home studio… coming soon.
“An exciting new pop artist to look out for!” Meghann Loney (Wildwood Kin)
“Meg Lawrenson is a natural storyteller, and her heartfelt, energetic songs - are perfect for singing along to at the top of your lungs.” Dave Gilyeat (BBC Introducing In Oxford)
