Fresh off a year of perfecting their chops at dozens of shows throughout Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, and North Carolina, Cutler Station is an indie rock band that has grown out of the title of “local band” into that of “regional band.” Armed perpetually with a glowing cactus and their very own mannequin made of tape, and, most recently, a church van; has performed alongside nationally touring acts such as Ona, Adam Remnant, Wayne Graham, Blackfoot Gypsies, William Matheny, and Josh Nolan.
The tightly knit foursome is made up of Jason Swiger, Steve Lipscomb, and brothers John and Kirby Evans, who have been making music in the current Cutler Station constellation since 2011. Their music sports the melodic intensity of Dayton’s Guided By Voices, with all the brainy oddness of DEVO and a smattering of ultra-aware Americana, ala Tyler ChildersSturgill Simpson produced works.
In 2019 the band released their self-titled second full-length LP, an album beloved by regional disc jockeys and rife with melodic interpretations of everything from local lore (the Mothman of Point Pleasant, “Catacombs”) to regional tragedy (the toxic chemical C8 that flows through the Ohio River thanks to the largely indifferent DuPont Corporation “Appalachian Highway,”). ~Emily Votaw
