Essentially forming in 1993 – up until that point they were a two-piece known as The Joans – Dubstar hail from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and comprise Chris Wilkie and Sarah Blackwood.
When they signed to Food Records at the height of the Britpop era, their bittersweet electro dream pop was a welcome and sensitive raft of reflective soul searching that bore commercial fruit in the retention of eight Top 40 singles (including Not So Manic Now and Stars) and three hugely successful albums (including Disgraceful, Goodbye and Make It Better).
In December 2000, amongst some disorder, Dubstar ceased to exist and it wasn’t until 2016 that Wilkie and Blackwood reunited to record new material that would become their fourth and best album, One. Produced by Youth, One is due for release on September 28th and features Waltz No.9 - an introspective, Byrds-inspired, psychedelic folk song which was available online only from June 1st – as well as singles You Were Never in Love and Love Comes Late. All the new material is released on Northern Writes.
