Leonard Luka is a 28 years-old Haarlem-based songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and producer with Indonesian/Dutch roots.
Growing up in a small apartment, he tried to absorb as many influences as he could. Too shy to sing as a child he found his voice in the piano. After a one-year break from music to experience life in Asia and Oceania, he decided to go back to his roots and create the music he grew up with, singing everything himself. This resulted in his first EP ‘BOY’ (2017). Leonard himself wrote and produced every song on this debut record. He went on to do an ambitious project with 9 musicians who never played together and recorded 3 new tracks in 48 hours, live on film: Live in 48 Hours (2018) The project gained attention from NPO Radio 2, Sofar Sounds and earned him several support acts (Aeris Roves, Steffen Morrison). Leonard is currently working on his new EP with producer Simon Akkermans (Binkbeats) to evolve his eclectic fusion of jazz, soul & alternative R&B.
In the studio and on stage he expresses his battles and dreams, combining his taste for poetic verses with jazz-driven chords and melodies. He channels the sophisticated music he grew up with and celebrates modern influences.
