Now the Cape Town-based three piece of Matthew Field (vocals and guitar),
Robin Brink (drums) and Ross Dorkin (bass) is poised for a global breakthrough
with a new album set for release in 2018. Currently being recorded in London
Beatenberg’s second album will be released through Island Records following
the band’s signing to the label in early 2017.
Regarded as one of the world’s most artistically diverse recording homes,
Beatenberg is a natural fit for Island’s artist roster. Over the 13-songs on The
Hanging Gardens of Beatenberg, the band revealed its ability to create sublimely
crafted pop that’s as rooted in indigenous South African styles as other musical
influences (including reggae, jazz and classical).
Beatenberg has already made its mark as band capable of straddling different
worlds, achieving South Africa’s first commercial crossover success of the 21st
century through intensely literate and dense pop music. With Field’s already
remarkable songwriting only getting better and the band’s musicality enhanced
by several years of consistent playing, there’s every reason to believe that the
next record from Beatenberg will earn this one-of-a-kind band a devoted global
