When she arrived in Austin, J. Wood moved in with a aging hippie who had played there since the 70’s. He acted as a sort-of spirit guide, and gave her a guitar.
Once a mecca for hippies and musicians, Austin in 2019 looks more like silicon valley, and less like the home of songwriting legends like Townes Van Zandt and Blaze Foley.
J. Wood’s music is a nod to old Austin folk-country blended with dreamy reverberated vocals of classic female crooners. A little bit Country, a little bit Rock N’ Roll. J.Wood’s first EP is the product of a woman’s drive to do what she loves, and not what is expected of her.
