This is the soundtrack to a lush, summer dream: A rosey, jazzy, and fruitful escape through music. With a sound consisting a potent blend of psychedelic rock, indie folk, Tropicália, and soul, Getaway Dogs is the brainchild of Brazilian-American songwriter, Kai Killion.
Hailing from the salty coastal town of Santa Cruz, California, the group's music is reflective of its marine environment, so much so that it sounds like it was conceived deep under the ocean's surface...Rent hikes have left Santa Cruz's artist community all but destitute, but Getaway Dogs remain a constant; a part of the resistance to increasing wealth inequality and gentrification that have left cities like San Francisco colorless and sterile. In September 2019 Getaway Dogs released their second and most refined album, BELONG. Hypnotic vocal harmonies and swirling guitars, entrancing drum beats and slippery keyboards: All these and more play into Getaway Dogs’ latest fantasia. The album's title, Belong, calls the listener in to feel at home in the dreamscape, and holds space for those who feel overwhelmed by the current state of their world. As J. Poet of Magnet Magazine writes, "With a small coterie of like-minded souls, Killion made a record full of dreamy, late-night psychedelia that spins a calm, soothing spell."
Getaway Dogs' lineup consists of Kai Killion (guitar & vocals), Lucas Heinel (synth & percussion), Andrew Hawes (drums, percussion), Bobcat Rob (lead guitar), and Shahya Khodadadio (bass).
