Grand Corps Malade is the alias of French rapper and urban poet Fabien Marsaud. A diving accident suffered on his 20th birthday left him permanently disabled, inspiring the Grand Corps Malade moniker and forcing upon him the omnipresent crutch that would become a signature element of his stage act.
Upon discovering "slam poetry" in 2003, Marsaud began writing autobiographical verse and entering readings at some bars. He then set his poems to music with his producer/manager and now friend, Jean-Rachid. He released in 2006 the album Midi 20. The record proved an unexpected blockbuster, selling in excess of 300,000 copies in less than six months.
He has then released 4 albums still produced by Jean-Rachid : Enfant de la ville, 3eme Temps (which saw him collaborate with French singer/songwriter Charles Aznavour on the track "Tu es donc j'apprends"), Funambule (music produced by Ibrahim Maalouf, and duet with the jazz singer Sandra Nkaké "Te manquer", with Francis Cabrel "La traversée" and with the french actor Richard Bohringer "Course contre la honte"). The concept album "Il nous restera ça" with many french singersongwriter (Renaud, Hubert Felix Thiefaine, Jeanne Cherhal, Ben Mazué, Lino..) was released in 2015. Grand Corps Malade also co-directed the film PATIENTS with his friend Mehdi Idir (film still co-produced by Jean-Rachid). The film was a success in France in 2017, 4 CESAR nominations. Now is Plan B, music produced by Angelo Foley !
