2018’s follow up, ‘Silent Minds’, received a similar response with first single 'Love You Better’ featuring on Spotify New Music Friday US, going viral globally and achieving over 1.8 million streams to date. The EP began a series of three thematically inter-connecting EPs, which continues with ‘Keep Your Eyes Open’ (‘Silent Minds Pt 2’) released on Young Poet Records in January 2020.
Emma first picked up a guitar aged 10 and has been writing songs ever since. Having been by her own admission “not very good at talking”, song writing quickly became a vital means of expression. This need for expression was born from Emma’s experiences growing up in the UK during the 2010s. A product of a diverse and modern society, she admits she found adolescence a confusing time, identifying as gay when her friends were spread across a broad LGBT+ spectrum.
Taking musical inspiration from a broad range of influences that reflect both a love of song writing and good pop music, 19 year-old Emma counts Tracy Chapman, Tove Lo, Missy Higgins, Banks and Brandi Carlisle amongst her heroes. With a resounding maturity and astute understanding of the world and modern life, it’s clear that Emma McGrath has much, much more to say.
