Mark Lenover is an independent singer/songwriter from Chatham, Ontario, who has been producing dark, idiosyncratic alt-pop for over a decade, influenced by acts as diverse as Nico, Joy Division, Pink Floyd , Radiohead and Neutral Milk Hotel.
Musically, his style and approach have shifted and developed over time, ranging from acoustic and carnivalesque, to noisy post punk and eccentric electronica. Thematically, his work explores a variety of topics ranging from the personal to the political, with a particular focus on the psychological effects of mass media, questions of morality in a post-modern world, and the potentially devastating effects of mental illness and substance abuse.
Mark started recording original material when he moved to Hamilton in 2003 to attend McMaster University. During his time in Hamilton he wrote and recorded seven projects that would eventually be given a wide release, beginning with 2006’s The Retributionists and ending with Shambles in 2010.
In 2010, Mark suffered a psychotic breakdown and moved back to his family home, where would write and record the remainder of his catalogue, from 2010’s Dead the Beast, Dead the Poison to 2015’s Wandering Stars. Mark’s releases were made possible by the work and encouragement of his good friend and collaborator, the multi-talented composer/producer David Disher.
Mark’s work has been featured in short and feature length films, most notably in the 2014 horror film, The Banshee Chapter.
